Drinking one to two sugar or fructose-sweetened beverages a day increases the risk of type 2 diabetes by 26%, according to a research review published in "Diabetes Care". The same meta-analysis, which looked at data from more than 310,000 patients, found a 20% higher risk of developing metabolic syndrome for daily guzzlers, than for those who averaged one soda a month.
